Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born on May 3rd,
1986. She studied at the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has appeared in
films such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She is
the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the
Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame
(2019). Pom Klementieff was the child of two parents: a Korean mother, and a
father who was French-Russian. Her father was consul in Quebec City, Canada.
Her father was a painter Eugene Klementieff. Her parents chose the name
"Pom" because it is similar in pronunciation to the Korean words for
"spring" and "tiger". The actress spent a year in Canada
before her family moved around extensively due to her father's work. Prior to
moving to France they lived in Japan as well as on the Ivory Coast. Klementieff
lost her father to cancer at age five. Her mother was also diagnosed with
schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt and paternal uncle.
Her uncle, who she described in her own words as "like her father from
childhood," died on Klementieff’s 18th birthday. Her brother who was older
committed suicide seven years later. The second time, it happened on the 25th
anniversary of her birth. After the passing of her uncle, Klementieff attended
law school briefly to satisfy her aunt. However, she didn't consider the
profession appealing. Also, she worked as an waitress in France as well as a
salesperson. She began acting when was 19, at the Cours Florent theatre school
in Paris. After finishing her studies and gaining a competition in theater that
offered her two years of tuition free with some of the top teachers at the
school. Klementieff's first professional acting job was in the French
independent film Apres lui (2007), acting as the stepdaughter in the film of
the lead character, who was played by Catherine Deneuve. Filming for her scenes
took three days. One scene featured Klementieff pushing someone down a set
staircase, only to fall. Gael Morel saved that scene for the final film. Loup
(2009) was her first film leading role. It is a French film about a group of
Siberian mountain reindeer herders. Klementieff was filming in a camp hours
away from the nearest village. The location was the one where temperatures
plunged to zero.
